Beaded fringe bounced to the syncopated sounds of jazz, while illegal hooch sloshed in long stemmed glasses. The bull market prevailed and it didn’t matter what you bought; stocks only went up. Names of the sport heroes still echo today: Walter Johnson, Babe Ruth, Jack Dempsey and Man O’ War. On the surface, it was a glittering moment in time captured by F. Scott Fitzgerald in stories like The Great Gatsby and “Bernice Bobs Her Hair.” We will exhibit a cross-section of the period with fashions from Paris, speakeasy cocktails, red hot jazz and weekend recreations.
Showing life in the 1920s like never before, this exhibit transformed the Beall-Dawson Museum into exhibition space, and gave visitors a chance to see some of the incredible items in our collection. Many of these objects were on display for the first time!
