Black Resistance Oral History Initiative

Montgomery History’s Black Resistance Oral History Initiative seeks to record the experiences of Black Montgomery Countians following the Civil Rights victories of the 1950s and 1960s. Our current focus is interviewing those with stories to share about attending the first integrated schools, the fight for equal public accommodations, and moments of collective and individual joy during this time.

If you know someone willing to participate, or wish to contribute an interview yourself, please contact Program Director Adedana Ashebir.

You can explore oral histories with earlier generations of Black elders in Montgomery History’s collection here. Please check back for updates as we complete and upload new interviews!
