The Gaithersburg History Project

To better understand and represent the history of the diverse cultural groups that make up the City of Gaithersburg, the Community Museum launched the Gaithersburg History Project in 2025. This ongoing project aims to research and record the important community stories – contributions, challenges, dreams, and everyday life – essential to sharing a fuller history of the city and providing residents with deeper education and connections.

From 2025-2026, anthropologist Dr. Maria Sprehn headed up the Latine History portion of the project, conducting research and creating reports about the City’s Latino/Latina/Latine people: their culture, heritage, immigration and settlement stories, businesses in the greater Gaithersburg vicinity, and contributions.
